The primary school runs from Year 1 to Year 5. Our sessions are activity-based and enjoyable, so learning is relevant and hands-on. Teaching tactics vary depending on the aim of the activity and the requirements of the learners, while ensuring that a complete and balanced curriculum is supplied. Our classrooms are visually appealing, with bright displays of student work and designated work spaces. While academic accomplishments are crucial, we think that students should have opportunity to flourish in a wide range of activities. We provide a wide range of extracurricular activities and school events to supplement our extensive and diverse educational courses. We have termly school themes that correspond to the curricular focus for each term. Students’ project work is displayed at the conclusion of each term.

OUR CURRICULUM

ENGLISH

Written and oral communication are key life skills. Our English curriculum, which encompasses listening, speaking, writing, and reading, provides the bedrock for lifelong learning. Fluent communicators are a necessity in the professional field, and at Wonder Heights, we are equipping and inspiring our learners to fulfil their language potentials.

The English curriculum is designed to equip the children with a strong command of the written and the spoken language, and to develop their love of literature through widespread reading.  At Wonder Heights, all learners will be guided to read for information and pleasure. Through this, they will acquire a wide range of vocabulary and a good understanding of grammar and punctuation in order to write accurately and clearly in a wide range of contexts, for different purposes and audiences. Our desire is to make the teaching of English truly inter-curricular, with writing activities linked to all subjects.

By introducing pupils to a wide range of literature, composition styles and technical knowledge, the English curriculum aims to:

  • Awaken and encourage a lifelong love of literature
  • Enable the clear transmission of ideas through written and spoken language
  • Encourage the discovery of ‘voice’ and ‘style’ in written pieces
  • Develop accurate use of written and spoken English
  • Use technology to enable clear and efficient communication
  • Nurture comprehension skills to raise awareness of the world around them
SCIENCE

Science is a powerful in the hands of learners; when it is properly taught and understood. Wonder Heights encourages students to use logic and the scientific process. Our teachers empower learners with the skills to carry out their own experiments and investigations.

In addition to appreciating the achievements of past scientists, our science curriculum aims at developing learners who think and work scientifically and gain knowledge in biology, chemistry, and physics. Pupils will learn about nature, processes, and methods of science through different types of science enquiries which help them understand the world around them.

MATHEMATICS

At Wonder Heights, we use the Cambridge Primary International Curriculum and blend them with practical activities. We teach students the processes behind mathematical skills and not just the skills themselves. Students with advanced mathematical abilities are provided challenges suitable to their level and opportunities to advance even further.

Understanding numbers and mathematical processes is vital for everyday living.

The mathematics curriculum in Wonder Heights is designed so that the learners become fluent in the fundamentals of Mathematics, are able to reason mathematically, and are able to find solutions by applying their Mathematics to a variety of problems with increasing sophistication.

The study of Geography will assist learners at Wonder Heights make sense of the world around them. It will examine the social, economic and physical forces and processes which shape and change our environment. Practical skills of investigation as well as team-work will be taught both inside the classroom and on field trips.

The Geography curriculum Wonder Heights has been designed to inspire learners’ curiosity and fascination about the world and its people. They will develop knowledge of globally significant places, and learn about the processes which give rise to key physical and human geographical features of the world.
